How to protect your home...

Home Security

Enhancing your home security allows you to monitor your property 24/7. Security cameras or live-monitoring doorbells can notify you of any movement in or around your home. A home alarm system can alert the police if unauthorised movement is detected, ensuring a quick response. Additionally, apps can help you monitor your property and control lights remotely, giving the illusion of occupancy.

Postal Deliveries

An accumulation of mail and packages can signal an empty property. To avoid this, arrange for a neighbour, friend, or relative to collect your post regularly or have your mail redirected. This simple step can prevent your property from becoming a target.

Social Media

While sharing holiday fun on social media is tempting, it can inadvertently alert burglars to your absence. Delay posting your pic updates until you're back home. Thieves often scan social media to find easy targets, so avoid advertising your absence.

Minimize Valuables in Sight

Ensure your home looks lived-in by using timers for lights or arranging for someone to house-sit. However, avoid leaving valuables in plain view through windows. Burglars are less likely to target a property that doesn't display tempting items. Move your valuables out of sight before leaving your property.

Emergency Contacts

Build a good relationship with your neighbours so they can recognise and report any suspicious activity. Having an emergency contact with a spare key ensures that someone can respond quickly in case of issues. This contact can provide peace of mind, knowing your property is looked after.

Summer sees a spike in crime rates, but by implementing these strategies, hopefully you can significantly reduce the risk of your property being targeted. Protecting your property allows you to enjoy your holidays without worry.
